High Frequency Words
Les mots de haute fréquence
High Frequency Words
Our initial strategy in Première Année is to present the basic sound set of the French language to the students. We learn the sounds that each letter of the alphabet makes, we learn to blend basic and then onto more complex sounds. We learn poems and rhymes that focus on specific sounds and we learn to find and identify these sounds in text. This is an ongoing process and one of the many reading strategies presented to the children.
We will continue with our phonics as the year progresses and now incorporate our Mots de haute fréquence as well. As we build our sound knowledge, there are certain words that will be very useful, as we learn to read new text. Some of these words have sounds that we haven’t learned yet, but we will present them now as we see them and use them regularly in our classroom learning. Eventually, we will learn to decode our high frequency words as our sound bank grows.
We will use them as we work and play in the classroom. We are sending these words to families as well so that we can make that connection between school and home, and so that families can familiarize themselves with these words in French. We are including each of the high frequency words used in a sentence. This puts the word in a meaningful context for your child. There will also be an audio recording of our mots de haute fréquence for families to use at home.
In this folder, you will find a list of high frequency words that will be sent home as the year progresses. As we add new words, we will send them home. As with our reading folder, J’aime lire, please keep this folder in your child’s baggie/sac plastique, so that they can bring it back and forth to school each day.
Merci ☺
