Reading Program - « J'aime lire ! »
Our home reading program will consist of a baggie book and a «comptine» (nursery rhyme), which will be sent home each week. The expectation is for your child to read at home every night for at least 10 minutes and to record his/her/their baggie book in the reading log provided. The reading log will serve as a tool for your child to track his/her/their reading success.
Please encourage your child to read a little each night this week, using the reading strategies indicated on the bookmark. Learners are reminded of the importance of using their bookmark as a tool to remain on the correct line, as well as, using their index finger to point to each word while reading aloud, so as to not get lost (as taught in class). Don’t forget, there are 3 ways to read a book; decoding each word, a “picture walk” (viewing the photos/illustrations to make contextual meaning out of a story and guess at unfamiliar words), and checking for understanding upon completion (e.g., orally retelling the story, sequencing main events into beginning, middle, and, end, and answering “who”, “what”, “when”, “where”, “why”, “how” questions).
The audio version of all comptines can be found below. This will allow your child the option to listen to a recording and follow along in the duo-tang.
*Please ensure the baggie book, the bookmark, and the «J’aime lire» duo-tang are returned to school daily because we work on them in class!
