About
Bonjour et bienvenue! My name is Jeanna Barnes and I'd like to thank you for visiting our class website. As a current resident of the town of Conception Bay South (and, a former student of Topsail Elementary myself) I am thrilled to be teaching grade one French Immersion at Topsail Elementary this year. Teaching Experience: Presently, I am entering my 12th year of service as an Early French Immersion teacher with the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District. Although I have acquired teaching experience at all primary/elementary grade levels of both, the English and the Early French Immersion programs; the majority of my time has been spent at the primary Early French Immersion level - specifically, grades one and two. In the past I have taught at such schools as: Octagon Pond Elementary (Paradise), Beachy Cove Elementary (Portugal Cove-St. Philips), and Topsail Elementary (Conception Bay South) . Education/Training: As a graduate of the Late French Immersion program myself, I developed an appreciation for the French language and culture at a young age. To date, I have completed the B.Ed (Primary/Elementary) and B.A (French/Psychology) programs of study at Memorial University, as well as a variety of French language and/or French teacher programs of study in francophone regions, including: Institut d'été de l'ACPI/école de langue Azurlingua (Nice, France), Session des enseignants (Université Sainte-Anne, Nova Scotia), and Explore - Programme d'immersion en langue seconde (Université Laval, Québec). Currently, I am enrolled as a part-time graduate student in the Master of Arts & Education (Education and Francophone Literature and Cultures) program through Memorial University. Special Interests: In my free time, I can be found with my family. My husband, two children, and our two dogs are new to camping and enjoy exploring around this beautiful province of ours, when the weather permits. Some of my hobbies include: travel, reading and cooking (but, mostly eating). I look forward to a wonderful year of learning and growing together! :) |
